Palm Springs Honeyversary

Tim and I got married just over a year ago and since we moved to New York right after we tied the knot, we didn’t really get a chance to have a nice relaxing honeymoon.  Sure, we took the train across country to the east coast, but with our wedding and the move right after it was just so hectic!  Dreaming of a getaway where we could lounge in the sun all day, we decided that we would celebrate a honeyversary!  We went to the oh-so-popular and oh-so-awesome Ace Hotel and Swim Club in the wonderfully hot Palm Springs and we had the best time ever.  We love the mid century feel that Palm Springs has. All of the houses look so fun and the decorations are so retro-cool! While we were there we swam in the pool for hours on end, bought out all the records at the thrift stores, and of course, we did a photo shoot!

We loved our engagement photos so much that we wanted to have a similar vibe with our latest shoot.  We shot our honeyversary photos with a tripod and wireless trigger, just like before, and of course we had to keep our retro flare!  We incorporated our love of the 50s 60s and 70s  and took inspiration from movies such as Gidget, Beach Party, and of course Palm Springs Weekend.  We found a really great vintage movie projector at a thrift store so we had to use that somehow…and I think it turned out to be so special.  I’m thinking this might be an annual tradition :) We hope you love the photos as much as we do. Showers of Love

This has been a crazy year for weddings!  Tim and I started it a year ago and I guess everyone had so much fun at our party that they want to throw one of their own!  My lovely bestie Savanna just got married to her darling Andy at the end of July, and guess who the photographer was ;) To check out the pictures that my handsome husby took of that amazing event, check out our wedding photography website.  We also took Savanna and Andy’s engagement photos and put together a beautiful video from that shoot so please check them out as well!  But the pictures that I’m going to share with you now are from Savanna’s bridal shower.  As her Matron of Honor, I had the privilege of throwing her the shower of a lifetime, and with the help of her Maid of Honor and the other bridesmaids, we threw her a Very Un-bridal Mad Hatter Tea Party.  Since it was the middle of summer in southern California, we opted for a variety of iced teas instead of hot tea and we served plenty of sweets and treats to go with them.

In other wedding news, in September my gorgeous darling cousin Theresa is getting married, so her sister threw her a Lovely Lemon Bridal Shower earlier this month.  The desserts couldn’t have been better…everything had lemon, my faaaaavorite, and we had a blast playing the Iron Chef dessert challenge!  We had a wonderful time and I can’t wait to fly home in September for the big party!!!

I’M BACK!!!

After a very very eventful summer, Tim and I are back in New York, ready for our final year in this crazy city!  We just moved in to our new apartment so we are living in a bit of a mess right now, and so to procrastinate on the cleaning I thought that I would post a few pictures of what I did over summer.  I realized that so much happened, from St. Tropez with the family that I work for, to celebrating our honeyversary in Palm Springs, to my best friend’s wedding, to my cousin’s bridal shower…so much going on!  So I’m going to spread out the posts over the next couple of days.

First up: South of France!

Sunshine warms my face and my heart

Spring has arrived!  It is here and it has smacked me right across the face with the fiercest love slap imaginable!  The sunshine, the leaves on the trees, the chirping birds, the peonies! Oh god, the peonies!  What a happy happy girl am I!

It’s been a while (story of my life) so I thought I would give an update.  This might seem a bit boring to some of you, but for people like my mom who check this thing daily to see what I’ve been up to, well this is for you :)

Two months ago I quit my job as a nanny for one family and became a nanny for another MUCH BETTER family.  Goodbye five-year old jerk who slapped me across my face on my last day…goodbye three-year old mental exhaustion who wants to play dolls all day and tell me what my doll has to say.  Hello nine-year old genius who wants to speed home from school so that she can read…hello seven-year old love bug who has the cutest laugh on the planet…hello four-year old comedienne who makes up her own hilarious stories with soundtracks to go with them.  These girls are brilliant, they are incredibly funny, they love the Beatles!  It’s a match made in heaven!

A couple weeks ago I went home to California and spent a beautiful week at home with my family.  My cousins came over and we shared beautiful conversation over delicious food…being at home is truly the best all-inclusive resort!  Thrift-store shopping (goodies in the shop SOON, I promise!), sitting on the patio around the fire, Korean spa day, delicious strawberry-rhubarb pie, questionable vegan lemon squares…heaven.

This past weekend Timmy and I went to Brooklyn for the cherry blossom festival at the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens.  Unfortunately, the flowers had already bloomed and fallen to the ground, but it was such a gorgeous day and we stayed as long as we could before the allergies started kicking in.  After the gardens we walked around the adorable neighborhood of Park Slope and bought lemonade for 50 cents from a sweet lemonade stand and shopped around in a really cool antique shop and stopped by a handmade craft fair.  All in all, a beautiful spring day!

Another really exciting thing for us is that our photography business Sweet Little Photographs is really taking off!  We got a mention on Daily Candy as well as on Green Wedding Shoes and ever since then we’ve been having trouble keeping track of our inbox!  We have a few weddings booked, many many more in the process of being booked, and lots of great conversations with wonderful clients happening.  I’ve been working on my photography skills and with a teacher like Tim pretty soon I’ll be AMAZING ;)  I am so happy with the way our life is taking shape, this is an incredible journey that I am so excited to start!

Here’s a piece of news for everyone: Tim and I will be in California for all of June and July…except for the two weeks in July that I will be in St. Tropez with the family that I work for (I TOLD you they were amazing!!!), so for all of you that wanted to come visit us in New York, you’ll have to wait until after August to do so!

The end!

Darling Camilla

Look at this sweet little darling!  How wonderful does she look in the sparkly green sweater and the pink ruffly lace skirt!?  I absolutely love her style and I’m so glad to add her to the list of Sugar Darlings!  Thanks so much, Camilla!
