After riding the train across country for a full three days, we have finally arrived in New York City! The train ride was certainly an adventure in itself. We had a sleeper car that had two seats facing each other which turned into a bed, and then an upper bunk bed that pulled down from the ceiling. It was just big enough for one of us to stand if we wanted to change or get stuff out of a suitcase. When we switched trains in Chicago, our new room was set up almost exactly the same way except this time we had a toilet in our room. Not a bathroom that was private and divided, but right there in the room! Needless to say we had a NO #2 rule.
We traveled through 51 stops total, with a layover in Chicago where we got to spend time with Savanna, Andy and Nicole. We walked around the city, invested in apple, and ate deep dish pizza at Gino’s East. Amazing.
Arriving in New York City we were almost an hour late. The rain from the past few days had flooded the tracks so we had to share the road with trains going the opposite direction, which delayed us quite a bit. Our hearts were pounding with excitement as the train took its sweet time along the Hudson. When we finally got to Penn Station, we grabbed our luggage and headed for a cab; we were hoping to find the cash cab but to no avail. We didn’t have far to go, the dorms were only a few blocks away from the train station, but I know for sure that we won’t be climbing back into a taxi anytime soon! The hard press of the gas and the quick braking was a little too much for our already shaky equilibrium. We finally got to the dorms around 8 and checked in with our RA. Our room is on the 15th floor with beautiful views of Lexington and 23rd Street high rise buildings. We have bunk beds but we decided to take the mattresses off and put them together on the floor so that we could finally snuggle! We slept AMAZINGLY last night, but perhaps it was the dramamine that I took because I couldn’t stop swaying like I was still on the train.
Today we are going apartment hunting and I am so excited! I hope that we’ll be able to find something soon because I can’t wait to start nesting and putting together our little home!
