In keeping with #4 of my new year’s resolutions, Tim and I welcomed in 2011 with a hippie dippie photo shoot. I bought this dress at Top Shop a few months ago knowing that I had nowhere to wear such a daring neckline but needing it with all of my being. I love the soft cream color, the delicate gold-threaded details, the plunging neck, the sweeping length, and the fluttering sleeves…it’s heaven in a dress. Tim tried to persuade me not to buy it…not because of the way it looked on me (believe me, no guy would turn down that decolletage!), but because it was just so impractical (damn him and his reasoning!) He said that, knowing me, I would NEVER wear it and that it was such an expensive item to just hang there in my closet. Well my dreams of photo shoots in a meadow, and on the beach, and in the mountains, and in the desert basically convinced me that I would wear it…lots of times. And to prove him right, that night we went home and I put it on as we watched our nightly television. I’m classy like that. He was right, of course. I can’t think of anywhere I would wear it in the real world, but in keeping with resolution #3, I’ll just have to force myself wear it to the market or the laundromat :)

A little while ago I decided to give some of my vintage hankies a little extra bit of personality by embroidering hip-hop lyrics onto them. They were just so darn cute that I had to put them up on etsy to pass along the amazingness. Within a couple days one had sold, and I was trying to figure out how to advertise and get them out there. Then all of a sudden the other 5 had sold to one person with a request for two more! I’m posting a picture of those hankies now to show all of the ones that I have done so far. If you like any of these, I would be happy to reproduce them for you but please know that they will be on a completely different hankie! Each sweet little vintage hankie is one of a kind, and because they are vintage they have been previously loved and may show signs of wear. However, I will never use one that has enough wear to be so noticeable that you won’t want to show it off. If you have a certain quote in mind I would be extremely happy to stitch it up for you :) Please contact me with any great ideas you may have!
These would make a great gift for your ghetto fabulous friends, or even as unique gifts for your bridal party! Another added benefit…hankies are eco-friendly and reusable! Use for blowing your nose, for wiping your hands, for washing off your makeup! Then just toss the machine (on the gentle cycle!) and your hankie will be as good as new!
(the last two items were rush orders so I didn’t have time to set up better pictures!)
AND look at this sweet mention from our friends over at Ivy and Aster!
on Christmas island…how’d you like to spend the holiday way across the sea!
Tomorrow is Timmy’s birthday and we are celebrating it by going on a super sunny sandy beachy palm-tree filled cruise to the Bahamas! It’s a seven day cruise so that means we’ll be gone for Christmas too and I can’t wait to trade in the chilly 30* weather for the wonderful high 70s :) Ohhhhh heaven, thy name is WARMTH! We’ll be back the day after Christmas and I can’t wait to share our dreamy pictures with you all!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS LITTLE DARLINGS!
We’ve hung the stockings, decorated the (miniature, NY appropriate) trees, and started listening to the holiday songs…now all that’s left to do is fill this apartment with smells of Christmas goodies baking in the oven!
Today we spent the day attempting to see Black Swan at a crowded theater, refunding our tickets and deciding on another day, eating delicious almond-crusted french toast at MUD, thrifting some really cool books to add to our (and by “our” I mean “my”) library, and trying to get my etsy shop up and running! I have a few really great things to sell for the holidays and I hope you find them sweet enough to purchase ;) Here is a sneak peak of the projects I’ve been working on, and hopefully the shop will be up by tonight so that you can grab your faves before they’re gone!
Here’s what I wore today…I’m loving my new knit beanie from urbs and stiletto booties from wet seal!!!
and the sweetest picture ever of my honey pie!

Happy Thanksgiving everybody! Tim’s mom and brother are in town and we decided to celebrate this holiday in true New York style…we went out for Indian food. We were the only people in the restaurant and had a private sitar concert in our honor :) It was perfection! Last week my dearest darling Jackie O came to visit with her sweetheart and we had the best time taking them all around the city. We’ve been entertaining guests for a while now, and yes, it is fun, but my oh my it is quite exhausting! Today we didn’t do anything before our Indian feast, so we had a chance to recharge our batteries to take on the last few days that our family is here.
This is the second year that I’ve been in New York for Thanksgiving, and it’s been hard to be so far from my family. Luckily today we were able to video chat and have some quality family time :)
I think this might be our family christmas card this year ;)
I’ve been working on some holiday crafts that I’m really excited about, and I need to get my act together if I want to get some stuff up on etsy while it’s still shopping time! Here’s a little sneak peak of some matryoshka ornaments that I stitched. I’ll do a big post when everything is ready (which should be soon!) so that you can have first dibs on all the goodies!
And speaking of goodies, don’t forget to check out all of the amazingness that we have in the shop! We have party dresses so stock up for all your New Year’s parties!!!
I want to live in this cozy knit sweater! It’s been sooo cold the past few days, and being a California Girl located in NYC, I’m having a hard time dealing with it. What you don’t see is the big puffy jacket I had to put on right after we took the pictures ;)
Sweater: from mom’s closet
Studded Tank: Ecote from buffalo exchange
Jeans: h&m
Ankle Booties: mom’s closet
I got a new vintage sparkly jacket and I loooove it! Too bad it’s so cold that I have to cover it up with a big puffy coat. I got it at Buffalo Exchange for $15, along with this new Blue Bird sweater for $20. I finished the look with my little peep toe heels (which were on sale for $15 at Urbs!!!) Love love love this weather and the clothes that go with it <3
Tim and I have been married for a little over a year, but we have actually been together for much, much longer than that. On November 3rd, we celebrated our ten year anniversary! Ten years ago Tim was in a band called T.H.O. and they were playing a show at The Legion Hall. My girlfriends were there standing next to me as we were watching the boy I had a crush on play guitar and sing backups. Then Tim came to the front of the stage, took off his sweatshirt, and on his shirt were the words “Mer, will you go out with me?” then sang a song that he had written for me…and we’ve been together ever since.
Gift giving over these past ten years has gone from extravagant scavenger hunts with little gifts at each stop to staying home and making pasta, which is absolutely lovely. I remember in the first few years thinking, how the hell am I going to outdo what I did last year?! Now it’s more meaningful as we sit together on the couch eating cinnamon rolls from a pillsbury can reminiscing about that night ten years ago, and all of the wonderful memories in between. I’ve never been the type of girl to demand an expensive dinner, or a piece of jewelry…but every so often Tim sees something that he knows I will love and he’ll surprise me with it for our anniversary. This year he gave me a GORGEOUS turquoise ring made by MidwestAlchemy on etsy, and it is just absolutely perfect! It’s so earthy and chunky and unique, exactly the piece of jewelry that needs to be in my collection. He knows me so well :)
I am honestly the luckiest girl in the world, and at times when I feel like life is getting me down I just remember that I have a husband who loves me, who has stuck by me through the good times and the worst times over the past ten years, and I know that we will have a lifetime of amazing adventures ahead of us. I love you Timothy, thank you for everything. You are my world <3
