Oh my gosh ya’ll, I’m still alive! I know my lack of posts in concurrence with this hurricane had you all scared that I was a gonner, but lo and behold HERE I AM! Wow. First of all, to go back to our mother nature and her sidekick Irene, luckily here in New York City we just had some whistling winds blow down a few branches. I know that other cities were hit pretty hard so I feel super lucky that we were left unscathed. The crazy hype sure made it interesting though…I have never seen New York so deserted and quiet! I was tricked by the thought of post-hurricane weather and decided to wear skinny jeans today, only to get out of the subway and immediately regret my decision. Why couldn’t I have just worn a dress like a normal New Yorker!? It really made me feel a little sad because it felt like summer was coming to a close, then here we are two days later and I’m back to my glistening sweaty self. Thank god! Don’t leave me, summer! I love youuuuuuuuu.
I guess I haven’t really divulged what I’ve been doing all summer, and I’d really love to let you guys know finally! You know that bridal shop Lovely that Tim and I always talk about/photograph/hang out at? Well a few months back the darling owner mentioned that she was thinking about opening a location in Los Angeles, and since the husby and I are moving back in November (oh, did I tell you that yet!?!? yaaaay!!!) then I would be in Los Angeles too! I asked her if there was any way that I could be involved, to which she replied “Do you want to be the manager?”…uhhhhh whaaaat? Moi? My resume includes parade performer, dance teacher, party starter (you know those dancers that come with DJs to Bar Mitzvahs in the glittery vests? ya, me)…but never ever retail. Oh wait, unless you count working at Forever 21 for like, a week, but I surely don’t. So naturally I took on the challenge and for the past 4 months I’ve been working at Lovely here in New York preparing for my future job as the manager of Lovely LA! The plan, as of now, is to move home in November and get a space and hire my peeps and then launch by February. So hey all you future brides out there…not only do you have access to an amazing husband and wife photography team, but that very same wife will also be running a bridal shop selling the most wonderful gowns! You can kill two birds with one stone!
Needless to say this job has really affected my fashion choices since I’ve been forced to dress up every day for my super fancy shmancy new position. I’m posting a few of my favorite outfits so you guys can see how professional I am (woop woop!) Also my dearies, notice the new hair? Ohhhhh yeaaaaaaaaaaaah. I dig. I dig very much.
This past weekend the New York City Bridal Market took place, and once again I was ecstatic to be a part of the best line in the whole show. The Ivy & Aster Fall 2011 collection is an extension of their previous line, still dreamy and whimsical and oh so pretty! The flattering styles paired with gorgeous draping, and not to mention the must-have accessories, make these soft dresses into dreams come true. The eye-catching booth was inspired by The Princess and the Pea, a tribute to Kate Middleton and her upcoming royal wedding to the dashing Prince William. Which dress should Kate wear when she marries her Prince Charming?
How fabulous do those dresses look paired with a leather jacket? I love the whole elegance-meets-Brit punk vibe! I wish I could get married all over again so that I could wear one of these darling creations! Please check out the Ivy & Aster website and click around to all of the links…from the about story to the blog diary, it is a little slice of heaven in the web world (plus you’ll see my little face pop up from time to time). And if you want to see more of these gorgeous gowns, check out the Sweet Little Photographs post. Did I mention how much I LOVE these dresses?? :)
xoxo
On the loveliest day of the year, what will you wear to make a statement on Valentine’s Day? What little number will you put on to make his jaw drop and to feel like a billion bucks? Allow me to make a suggestion (or two!).

In keeping with #4 of my new year’s resolutions, Tim and I welcomed in 2011 with a hippie dippie photo shoot. I bought this dress at Top Shop a few months ago knowing that I had nowhere to wear such a daring neckline but needing it with all of my being. I love the soft cream color, the delicate gold-threaded details, the plunging neck, the sweeping length, and the fluttering sleeves…it’s heaven in a dress. Tim tried to persuade me not to buy it…not because of the way it looked on me (believe me, no guy would turn down that decolletage!), but because it was just so impractical (damn him and his reasoning!) He said that, knowing me, I would NEVER wear it and that it was such an expensive item to just hang there in my closet. Well my dreams of photo shoots in a meadow, and on the beach, and in the mountains, and in the desert basically convinced me that I would wear it…lots of times. And to prove him right, that night we went home and I put it on as we watched our nightly television. I’m classy like that. He was right, of course. I can’t think of anywhere I would wear it in the real world, but in keeping with resolution #3, I’ll just have to force myself wear it to the market or the laundromat :)
Hello November…nice to see you. It seems as though you’ve brought your friends Rain and Gloom. They weren’t really invited, but I guess they can come in. I hear back in LA it’s 97 degrees today…I see that Sunshine and Happiness had a better party to go to. Yes, I’m bitter…and cold.
October came and went so fast, and with it of course we added a bulk of awesomeness to the shop, got a cold that hasn’t really left, and ate way too much candy than is ever necessary. We still have a lot of it left, and I’m actually eating a Reese’s peanut butter cup right now so I guess I don’t feel too bad about the situation. Halloween was so much fun, we actually went to a party this year so we had to come up with super wonderful costumes. Being a California Girl at heart, it seemed an appropriate choice to be a Katy Perry confection from her Candy Land inspired video. I made my dress, bought a wig and some sparkly tights and et voila! Tim decided that dressing up as a pimped out Snoop Dogg wouldn’t do…so he chose to be a vintage candy man and looked so utterly adorable that I just wanted to eat him up! We danced the night away and had a blast :)
I just adore these pictures of Natalia Vodianova for Vogue Italia by photographer Bruce Weber. Thank you to Fashion Victims for bringing them out of the archives!
